GTA VI police system: witnesses, CCTV and changing your description

An October 29 hands-on preview details GTA VI's evidence-based police heat system, from witnesses to CCTV.

A new Edge preview describes police investigations that remember what witnesses and cameras saw, not just how many wanted stars you have.

What the police can learn

In its October 29 exclusive, Edge reports that GTA VI tracks details including a suspect's clothing, physical description, visible weapon, accomplice and CCTV exposure. The information appears as indicators of what police believe they know. These are observations from a guided pre-release demonstration, not independent tests of the finished game.

Escape changes with the evidence

The preview describes several ways to become harder to identify: separate from an accomplice, change clothes or discard a weapon. That is different from the older habit of hiding until the wanted stars disappear. It does not establish that every witness can be silenced or every security camera disabled.

Why vehicle choice matters

Edge also describes stolen vehicles with possible tracking systems and owners who may report a theft. The police may therefore follow clues beyond the player's current location. Whether these systems apply identically across missions, free roam and different difficulty settings is not yet established by public footage.
